Hot racing

There were a few races this hot weekend, starting with our own Friday Night 5 from Pleshey village hall on a warm and humid evening around the country lanes.

The winner was Ryan Prout from Thrift Green in a time of 26.41. First Strider man was Ed Freeman in 30.15. The ladies winner was Rachel Sweatt from Witham in 29.27. First Strider lady was Nichola Norman in 38.14.

Ivan Howlett set a new v70 5 mile record in 46.13.

We must not forget the army of marshalls and helpers who made this event the success it was and we give thanks to you all. Kevin had an assortment of prizes to give at the end and I do think that if you were a runner and you stayed on, you got a prize (whatever it may have been!)

A few Striders did the Nayland 10k on another hot Sunday; a tough multi terrain course; Sharon Bannister was there with Karen Beazeley, Vicky Cordell Surtees, Steve White, Juliet Warren-Penny, Mark Babbage and Sue Aves.

Another pocket of Strdiers did the Brentwood 10k over in Blackmore on Sunday through a lovely course through country lanes mostly. Nikki Brockbank was 1st lady (and 1st v35) in 40.04. Donna Morris was 4th lady and 1st FV45 in 50.18. Together with Sarah Goodwin the ladies won the 3rd ladies team proze.

Chris Burgoyne was 2nd man and 1st senior man in 33.22

A few Striders did the Stort 10 in Hatfield Forest (also on Sunday). Jackie Stretton was first Strider followed by Steve Bugden. Nicky Looby and Deborah Hitching also ran. According to Steve, it was mighty hot, the terrain fiorm and uneven so you had to watch your step. There was an option to bail at 5 miles (but no Strider did).

Well done to everyone who ran.
