2004

Maldon Sprint The last triathlon of the season for many was hosted by Blackwater Tri Club in Maldon on Sunday. Along with nearly 200 other competitiors 6 Striders took part. Starting with a 400m swim in the pool, followed by a two lap 23k bike around Mundon, finishing with a 2 lap 5k run through the promenade park. Good weather conditions made the well organised event all the more enjoyable for competitors. All striders placed highly with Ian Gowers first Strider home in 22nd place, however individual splits gave John Bronze the fastest swim and bike, and Alec Coleman the fastest run. Dave Jellicoe, Simon Lawrence and Danian Bhanji followed in closely behind.  

Clacton Olympic Triathlon While most of the club were running to success in the Essex Way Relay a handful of striders competed in the Clacton (Olympic) Triathlon. Nearly 200 competitors battled with the hot weather and changing tide to complete the scenic course. Mixed fortunes were had by all. Dave Jellicoe was well up the field in only his second triathlon, while Alec Coleman took to throwing away equipment to speed up his cycle section. The trophy for 2nd place was handed to Ian Gowers, but soon returned after count back, when an additional 30 minutes were added to the swim time.

Clacton Striders Results

• Cambridge Olympic Triathlon - The Cambridge Tri in the middle of the Fens may well have been fairly flat, but it proved to be a very technical event. It included a tough lake swim, a long open bike section, and a twisting off-road run to Finish. The field were top quality with all the Springfield Striders placing well in a group half way down the field. Dave in his first triathlon had a successful section on his new bike (see below), while Ian & Alec both had problems in the swim.
