Road Running

Mersea Marvels

June Allen and Mark Newton took the honours at the Mersea 10 on Sunday. It was June's second win since her return from injury. She won the Dartford Half Marathon last month. Anyone who has seen Mark on Tuesday nights recently will know that he is flying at the moment and that this race victory was on the cards. Chris Burgoyne (2nd) and Paul Dobson (4th) joined Mark to take the team prize. Paul took the vet prize.

June was joined by Vikki Curren and Liz Irvine in winning the ladies team prize. The Striders' men were also second team with Lee Martin, Stu Putt and Paul Anderson in the top twelve.

First Strider home in the 5 miler was young Nicholas Dobson who came in an excellent 15th. First Strider lady was Nicole Callaghan.

Harlow Gold Rush

The latest race in the Essex Road Race Grand Prix took place at the Harlow 10(miles) on Sunday. With County medals up for grabs Springfield Striders were well to the fore.

Lee Martin and Mark Waine ensured another team victory on the roads. Malcolm Savage claimed bronze in the V60 category.
The ladies team of Kate Mills, Nikki Brockbank , Lynn Tanner and Nikki Pyle were second in the team stakes but there was an individual gold for Tanner in the V55 as well as two silvers for Mills in the open and V35 competition.
With just the Wix 5 (miles) to come in October the Striders are well up in the Grand Prix standings with Kate Mills (open and V35), Lynn Tanner (V55), Malcolm Savage (V60) and Paul Molyneux (open) in gold medal position, with Gary Chandler and Paul Dobson in silver and bronze in the V40 category. The men’s team also lie in pole position, but the ladies have already retained their title with a race to go. Well done girls.
