Paul Dobson
continued his chase for age group honours at
the British Veterans 10Km championships at
Prestwold Hall near Loughborough on Sunday.
Held on an old RAF airfield the course was
flat but unfortunately a blustery wind
affected times. Dobson’s 33.50 clocking
was 25 seconds outside his club record but
the tall Yorkshireman still made the top ten
in the over 40 category in a very strong
field.
Four other Springfield
Striders ran closer to home at the Horndon on
the Hill 10Km. New member Jon Byford
was the leading Strider with Jennifer
Macaulay, Richard Sandford and Neil
Godier all following in close order.
The Thaxted trail race
on Wednesday saw 20 Striders in the 80 strong
field with winning performances coming from Gary
Chandler and Tracy Woodyard
on a fast course to the north of the village.
The annual Good, Bad and
Ugly relay took place on Thursday evening
with teams of three picked at random. The
slowest runners ran one lap, the middle order
two and the fastest runners three. Simon
Webb, Darran Hull and Craig Campion
led after the first leg, but were overhauled
by four teams on the second lap. Graeme
Romain, Paul Wheeldon and Gary
Joslin went into the final lap with
a 23 second lead but they too were caught by
four faster finishing teams.
Paul Molyneux
led his team (Sarah Wenman and Jo
Gemmill) to a 21 second victory over
Chris Beazeley, Tracey Alexandrou
and Vikki McEachern with Dave
Norman, Catherine Dodd
and Greg Potts back in
third. Equalling the fastest time of the day Paul
Dobson brought his team of Ian
Bilboe and Pat Knowles
up five places to fourth.
Molyneux
and Dobson both clocked 9.08
for the 1.8 mile loop and Lucy
Westcott was the fastest lady in
